Chapter 26 Trap
Mu Ziyi gave her a puzzled expression.
Yan Wan paused and explained, “Do you still remember the entrance exams at University A five years back? I was involved in an accident and was barred from taking the exams because I was late. You helped me back then.”
If it were not for him, Yan Wan would have missed her opportunity to enroll at University A.
Mu Ziyi did not find it surprising and smiled, “I thought you had forgotten about me.”
He had recognized her immediately.
Back then, she was involved in a minor traffic accident and was injured. She did not even have her wound bound before appearing at the examination venue.
Her passion and stubbornness were still fresh in his memory.
Her words confirmed it.
Yan Wan was overjoyed, “I wanted to thank you after the examination, but I was never able to find you.”
“I became an exchange student and went to Europe,” Mu Ziyi’s eyes darkened. He appeared unwilling to continue on this subject.
Then he smiled and continued, “Well, it’s not too late to repay me now. How about treating me to dinner after work?”
“Sure!” Yan Wan agreed without hesitation. Even if Mu Ziyi had not mentioned it, she would have made the same offer as well.
Shen Baimei held her phone and walked into the office grinning from ear to ear.
She was in an exceptionally good mood today. She had been suppressing her rage for a long time, and finally found a suitable opportunity to release it.
“Ms. Shen, you seem especially happy today. What happened?” The coworkers greeted Shen Baimei.
Shen Baimei was a senior designer and had a high rank in the office. There was always a crowd around her.
She flaunted her phone and said mysteriously, “There’s some juicy gossip. Follow me to the lounge! I’ll tell you all more there.”
As she said this, Shen Baimei glared maliciously toward Yan Wan’s desk and saw a dashing man sitting there. She was startled and asked, “Who’s that?”
“A new coworker. It’s such a pity that he’s Yan Wan’s assistant!” a woman answered enviously.
A new assistant?
Shen Baimei’s vicious eyes narrowed. They seemed to be chatting happily, as though they had known each other for a long time.
People who liked each other and worked together tended to spark romance between them.
Shen Baimei suddenly had a better idea.
As Yan Wan and Mu Ziyi were chatting, the manager, Xu Han, walked over.
“Yan Wan, the boss wants you in his office. He wants to check on the progress of your design.” She looked at Yan Wan with a complex gaze.
According to the protocol, Yan Wan should only report her progress to her, and it would go up the chain of command. The boss would only ask to see the summary and the finished product.
It was the first time that the boss had asked for the design progress and even asked for the designer to bring it to him herself.
Furthermore, Huo Lichen was rumored to be exceptionally busy.
Yan Wan did not think too much about it. It was her first independent project, and she was not yet accustomed to the design department’s rules and protocols.
She hurriedly arranged her documents and headed to the president office.
Knock knock knock.
Yan Wan knocked on the door politely when she reached the office.
A deep and seductive male voice called out, “Enter.”
Yan Wan entered the office and was surprised to see that Huo Lichen was not working behind his desk, but rather sitting on the couch.
There was a cup of coffee, a glass of milk, and some delicious looking desserts on the table in front of him.
The president’s life seemed to be a good one.
Yan Wan sighed inside as she stood at the side and passed the documents to Huo Lichen, “Mr. Huo, this is my draft of the design.”
Huo Lichen took them casually and gestured to the seat beside him, “Have a seat.”
The seat he had gestured to have a glass of milk in front of it.
Yan Wan was shocked. Are all this prepared for me? I’m only here to report my progress. It won’t be appropriate to eat here, will it?
Hence, Yan Wan did not move but simply said, “No need. I’m fine standing.”
She did not want to mix private affairs with work, but Huo Lichen would not let her.
He stared meaningfully at her, “I’ll take a while. If you stand, it’ll affect my mood.
Yan Wan was speechless. Huo Lichen has such weird habits.
She reluctantly sat down.
Only then did Huo Lichen start to flip through the documents. He continued, “If you’re bored, feel free to have some snacks.”
So he is worried that I would be bored? Yan Wan instantly understood Huo Lichen’s intentions.
If he took a long time to review a design draft, he would take some time for other data as well. The people reporting to him might feel bored, so it was not unreasonable for him to prepare some snacks for them.
After thinking about it, Yan Wan felt more at ease, so she picked up a spoon and attacked those mouth-watering desserts.
The desserts tasted great, and they were all her favorite flavors.
Yan Wan finished them happily, and Huo Lichen happened to finish reading at the same time.
He was lost in thought as he held the document in his hand.
“Did you face many restrictions while drawing this?”
Yan Wan stared at Huo Lichen in surprise.
She had thought that he would comment on the negatives and weaknesses of this design, but he was able to tell how she felt when she was designing it.
She had indeed felt restricted by the requirements.
This set would be designed for Huo Lichen. His looks and figure were perfect, and his aura was dignified and made people look up to him. Any second-rate design would not suit him.
Huo Lichen opened the file and placed it in front of Yan Wan.
He had a serious tone, “You will only find someone to be mysterious and out of reach if you don’t know him well enough. Yan Wan, I don’t mind letting you understand more about me.”
When faced with a bottleneck while handling a custom order, the fastest and most effective way to solve it was to get to know the client better.
Yan Wan was interested, “Can I really?”
“Yes. Before the design is finalized, you can follow me around,” Huo Lichen gave her the authority.
The authority to follow and observe him was tempting, but Yan Wan felt that something was off as though she had fallen into a trap.
Before she could make sense of this, Huo Lichen quickly made a call, “Wei Qi, bring a new desk in. Yes. It’s for Yan Wan.”
Yan Wan was shocked and asked, “Why are you preparing a desk for me here?”
She was not his secretary so she did not need to work here.
“It’ll be more convenient for you to get to know me,” Huo Lichen replied naturally.
“But…”
“Or would you not like this opportunity? Do you not have as much passion for this project as I thought?”
Yan Wan fell silent at the man’s questioning gaze.
If she were to refuse, she would be admitting that she was not professional in front of her boss. She would definitely lose her job.
However, she felt that everything was wrong about working in Huo Lichen’s office.
